"quotas" and "over quota" messages. |
What is a quota?
I'm using space at Glinx?
In the case of web-space, all the files involved in creating your web page are stored on our web server. When you signed up with Glinx, you also were assigned a certain amount of web-space (a web quota). If you exceed this quota, you will be sent an automatic message letting you know about the problem. How much space do I have?
I recieved an e-mail saying I was over-quota, but what does this strange printout mean?
Block limits File limits Filesystem used soft hard grace used soft hard grace /dev/hda2 +- 8572 8000 10000 7days 1 500 1000This example shows a user who is using too much space for their mail. Here is a breakdown of each of the items printed in this report:
Used (Block Limits) refers to the number of Kilobytes that are currently being used on our servers (1 block = 1 kilobyte). Soft (Block Limits) means the number of kilobytes you are actually allowed to use. This is called the "soft limit" As soon as you exceed this amount, you will recieve a warning message. Hard (Block Limits) is your "hard limit". If you exceed this amount, you are going to run into problems. You may be unable to recieve mail, or upload any web pages. It's important that you not exceed this amount. Grace (Block Limits) describes the amount of time you have to clean up the problem. After this time you may recieve a call from tech support, and your mailbox or web page may be moved until you contact technical support. File Limits refers to the actual number of files you are allowed to keep on our server. In the case of mail, it's always simply one file used. Used, Soft, Hard, and Grace carry the same general meanings as their Block Limit equivilents. I downloaded my mail, but it still says I'm over quota. What do I do?
"Skip big messages" and "Leave messages on server" should both be unchecked. Both of these options will leave mail on our server which can easily build up over time. Okay, how do I fix it?
In the case of your web space, there are a couple of solutions. First, you can check the files in your web directory and delete any unnessesary files. If all the files are nessesary, then you can purchase additional webspace for a minimal fee. Please contact the Sales/Billing department to purchase extra space. I have more questions. Who do I call?
